After a fairly bad week this week, I've been doing a fair bit of research into the ways that I can improve my diet and general eating habits in order to help me lose weight and get healthy -
1) Track everything - including that extra little spoonful for myself when cooking, otherwise these would become hidden calories that I'd be unaware I was eating according to my tracker on myfitnesspal
2) Measurements - weigh things or use cups so that I know exactly how much I'm eating (a handful doesn't count!)
3) Plan meals - I need to ensure that I plan my meals for during the week, especially breakfast and lunch, as otherwise I end up sauntering around the kitchen having the attitude that I can't be bothered and picking up something which is unlikely to give me enough energy or is just generally bad
4) Cut down carbs - after getting some advice from PlumPetals and doing some more research, I've found that I need to cut down on carbs or at least use more wholegrain alternatives than I do now and bulk up my meals with veg rather than rice or bread
5) Eat more - vegetables are something I've always struggled to enjoy, I'm an entirely sweet-toothed person so fruit isn't a problem but I need to get more veg in than simply a salad at lunch and sweetcorn with dinner
I've also started a bit of a competition with my boyfriend which I did once before and really worked - for every day that he does work for college, I have to work out the next day. This kind of thing brings out my competitive nature as I know he'll tease me if I don't do it! So I'm ordering Davina's Ultimate Target dvd and on the lookout for some running gear as this is the kind of motivation I've been lacking! How's everyone's week been?
You've got a good set of plans right there. Tracking, measuring, planning all take time - but it's really worth it. I used to set aside a day to just measure things out and put them in ziplock bags or containers so that it minimizes a bit of the tediousness of meal prep.
ReplyDeleteThe challenge with your boyfriend sounds like good motivation - keeping it fun and motivating at the same time :)
I hope my suggestions help. Looking forward to reading about your progress! :)
Yeah that's what I've been doing and it seems to have worked! Thank you for the advice :)
DeleteGlad to hear it!! Any time :)
